Review for Exam 2

Groups -- please come up with some topics/questions using the workbook

_________________________

Author names -- the exam will jog your memory by supplying article/book titles or concepts along with author names.

Choice -- 5 questions, you will answer 4 -- there's a bit of choice within questions as well.

Cover enough but not too much, plan ahead. For example:

Explaining arguments

  1. Make sure your explanation includes key premises -- James Rachels' argument for vegetarianism
  2. Make sure your explanation doesn't omit crucial ideas -- Bruckner roadkill argument
Making objections
  • Key thing is to show thoughtfulness, not to make a devastating objection -- Bruckner objections
Defining terms
  • Any unfamiliar terms should be defined--e.g. marginal casees, superior beings, ethological pleasures, etc.
Giving examples
  • To make yourself clear, it's always good to give examples.  For example (!), say you're saying that D&K think animal citizens have a responsibility to do non-exploitative work.  What's an example of non-exploitative work?
